How old were you in the year 1985? Do you remember how technology was back then?
The author decided to set the story in that year where cell phones were the size of bricks, women wore shoulder pads, permed their hair, Madonna was the hot new thing and every home was tuned to watch the TV drama series Dallas and Dynasty.
But the real challenge in writing a thriller crime plot set in 1985 was absence of many advanced technology in terms of forensic science. Fingerprint examples were still matched by the human eye, there is no DNA technology. In another word, it was the year of Stone Age in the science field.
So without the modern convenience, Tami Hoag realised that she couldn't write her detectives getting information as fast as the present day. Imagine no cell phones for instant contact. So how did the detectives solve crimes back then? Read on.
In a quiet and peaceful town in Oak Knoll, four 5th grade students (10 years old) discovered a dead woman lying in the woods when they were walking back home after school. The plot revolves around these four families and the kids.
The plot is cleverly written in causing every character as a possible suspect. You will particularly like one character by the name Franny although he only appears once in awhile but each time he's in the picture, you can't help but laugh at his witty lines.
See the tagline above the title of the book? See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil. After abducting a female victim, the murderer would first glue the victim's eyes and mouth so that she cannot see nor scream for help. Next, he would use a sharp tool to destroy the victim's eardrums but he won't kill her immediately.
